Compostable cold cups (suitable for beverages under 122°F/50°C) are crafted from polylactic acid (PLA), a non-GMO corn-derived biopolymer. These PLA cups meet the strictest international standards for biodegradability and compostability, holding ASTM D6400 certification for “compostable plastics.” They look the same as conventional plastic cups, in terms of appearance, weight and durability. However, when composted, they break down completely into water, CO₂ and organic matter. Unlike petroleum-based plastics—which create toxicity and persist in ecosystems—these cups originate from renewable resources, significantly reducing environmental impact.
